Clergy Continuing Education Online

Congregation and Family Systems Study Groups

Pastors, priests, rabbis and ministers, you are invited participate in an innovative online learning group that brings clergy together from across faith traditions and around the country without leaving your office.

Study sessions are for clergy who want to improve skills and effectiveness, manage personal stress and increase the ability for self-reflection.  The sessions are particularly valuable for clergy serving congregations experiencing transition, conflict or challenges related to growth.

Each study group will meet online eight times throughout the year under the leadership of a clergyperson with a doctoral degree in family and congregational systems work who is also a licensed mental health counselor.

Participants will:

  • Gain or expand family and congregational systems training and skill building
  • Set and achieve personal systems-related goals
  • Understand and manage one’s role in the congregational system in a new way or more effective way
  • Deepen ability for self-reflection
  • Increase ability to manage personal stress
  • Learn from and support each other through facilitated group discussion
  • Receive one hour of individual support/consultation during the year.

Frequency

Study groups will meet eight times between September 2018 and June 2019 in two hour blocks approximately once a month at a time to be mutually agreed on by group members.

Group Size and Participant Make-up

Each study group will include 3-5 clergy. Groups will be interfaith unless a same-denomination group is specifically requested. Groups will be developed based on knowledge and skill level. If there is enough interest, a non-congregation/community ministry group will be formed.

Instructor

The Reverend Doctor Lynn Acquafondata works as a licensed mental health counselor in private practice in Rochester, New York. She runs workshops for congregations and clergy dealing with conflict and other difficult issues and guides them to a healthy and vibrant future through Congremap: Congregational Systems Consulting. She has served congregations and has worked as a hospice and hospital chaplain.

Location: Online and/or In-person

Most study groups will meet on-line via Zoom. An in-person group will be available in Rochester, NY. Participants in this group can expect some participants to join via internet and may choose to participate on-line in months when personal schedules are complex.
